It holds G2's Fall 2026 Leader, Easiest To Use, and Best Support (Small Business) badges. Power users sometimes want deeper automation, and the price grows with your list.

Campaign Monitor: Advanced Segmentation and Intuitive Drag-and-Drop Builder

Automations allow us to capture new subs on our drip campaign list, or new leads on a transactional list, and speak to them all appropriately, without a huge lift from us. You set it up with intention, and then it just runs, communicating with everyone without much oversight. The data is great and helpful for future decisions. Pros: I chose Campaign Monitor because of its advanced segmentation abilities and also the simplicity of the drag-and-drop email builder. I love that I can segment customers based on who their contact is at the company, or based on where they're coming from; then, to speak to them in the language that resonates most with them. The pricing seems fair, and the tracking is great by list or map. I've never had trouble integrating the list with other apps, and overall it is just a robust platform. But it is the segmentation and subsequent automation capabilities (to segments) that is the biggest advantage of CM over other options, imo. Cons: There are few annoyances; the builder is not perfect, but it's not far off. As good or better than most other email platforms.

An agency using Campaign Monitor for over a decade.

The support team is amazing and very knowledgeable. We've had very few issues that needed solved but when we do they are on it and provide detailed explanations. Two recently were with a third party API tool we're using and they were able to identify how they integrated with Campaign Monitor and what the issue was. The other was how Campaign Monitor handles timestamps passed through the API and were able to help us find a solution that worked for our issue. But nothing was broken or needed fixed. Pros: As an agency, we utilize the template language they provide to build very custom templates for our clients who want to run their own email marketing on our agency account but need an easy-to-use custom template. The API and transactional smart email feature offer us very advanced email marketing features you can't find anywhere else. Cons: There are some list limitations that we run across when we have multiple lists that need to update each other simultaneously. A few automation limitations based on how automation is triggered hold us back from some advanced triggers we'd like to implement. We can navigate around both, and overall, there's not much we dislike about Campaign Monitor.

The Best Email Service Provider on the Market!

Campaign Monitor is wonderful. I recommend it enthusiastically to anyone looking for a full service, easy to use email platform. Pros: Excellent customer service -- a human picks up the phone when you call and works with you to creatively solve problems, if you use the Premier tier. Dashboards and analytics are all intuitive and easy to use. Automation journeys are easy to build and update. Drag and drop templates are easy to use. Cons: I wish we could establish settings to automatically scrub emails after that were inactive over a certain period. These segments are already created automatically, but we have to export files and copy in email addresses to remove subscribers. I also wish it integrated with ZeroBounce, my preferred email deliverability tool. I also sometimes wish I could edit the HTML on particular sends.

Quick fix of a broken link

Sent out an email campaign late Friday afternoon, with one link that didn't work. CampaignMonitor were able to quickly change the link destination so that those that opened the email going forward would be sent to the right place. Saved me from having to send a dreaded 'Sorry that email contained a broken link' follow-up!

Best customer support

Campaign Monitor is one of the tools we offer to our clients for sending highly-customized and personalized emails that are trackable and provide them with the reporting insights they need to make important marketing decisions. This benefits our agency by making us look like experts and garnering more email business. Pros: Not only does the Campaign Monitor platform make sending highly-customized emails easy and fun, their support team is phenomenal. I have been working with Campaign Monitor for 10+ years and have never had a lapse in great service. Highly recommend. Cons: The only very nit-picky thing is that with any email software, there is a bit of a learning curve to do advanced email sends. But I think that is to be expected.

Campaign Monitor is a great software to send all your email campaigns

We have found that using Campaign Monitor has really helped us to have all of our email campaigns in one place. Even new employees have got to grips with the software pretty quickly and have found it easy to edit and send new campaigns. Pros: Campaign Monitor is a good software to use if you are looking for an easy all-in-one solution for sending out marketing campaigns. We use Campaign Monitor for both our internal and external comms and have found it very easy to use for all of our employees who have used it. Cons: Editing the email you are looking to send out is quite easy, but there could be more features that allow for different style solutions when editing.

Simple Powerful and Effortless Email Marketing for Small Agencies

As a small B2B digital marketing agency focusing on Lead Generation and Email Marketing, I have used Campaign Monitor by Marigold within my own company and, more importantly, for my client email campaigns. Of the competitor products I've used (MailChimp, Emma, Vertical Response, etc.) Campaign Monitor by Marigold has been my favorite by far. Pros: Simple and elegant dashboard Easy to understand analytics Ease of use for client campaigns Cons: I honestly can't think of any major improvements. I love Campaign Monitor by Marigold

Rock solid

We use Campaign Monitor to keep track of lists on course registrations. We've had the same code running for years and have never run into issues. The API is very stable and after 5 years we haven't had any issues, no breaking changes or anything related to it. I'm very happy with the services provided. Pros: I liked the documentation, it's nice and easy to read as well as follow. Integrating with their API was also easy, I had no issues with that and works well. The responses are great and errors that you do get are easy to understand and resolve. Cons: I can't fault Campaign Monitor on anything regarding our use case, it has fulfilled our desired use cases.

Easy to use and scales with you

We focus on opt-in email as a way to increase engagement with our followers and fans. Campaign Monitor by Marigold is great way for us to do just that. We appreciate that the pricing is tiered to scale as we grow the list, and the built in templates are all mobile optimized and easy to use. Pros: It was super easy to set up a welcome series for when people subscribe The analytics are useful and easy to review in aggregate or by campaign The template options are all beautifully designed and mobile optimized Cons: Sometimes the editor can be a bit finicky when you click in to edit/swap out an image or link The documentation can sometimes be tricky to follow, but does seem to cover everything we've thought of I would love to see sequence templates

Technical Advice for Non-Profits

Both technical advisors, Priya and Curtis, were very helpful. We are two volunteers who donate our time putting on fundraisers for our two non-profits, the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation one of which helped us with the rare illness that took our oldest son and the other which is a small school in Selma AL, McRae-Gaines Learning Center. We use Campaign Monitor to engage with past participants so that they don't miss the opportunity to fundraise with us. We understand that major companies might better use Campaign Monitor, but with training it can be a very useful tool for non-profits as well.

Does what it says on the box. Recommended, especially for small-ish orgs

We are using Campaign Monitor as our email marketing platform. We send emails like, EDMs, invitations, transactional emails, event communications, and automated responses. Marketing leads its use, but it is being used by other teams. We are using it in tandem with CRM/other database systems where we manage contacts. Pros: Personalization: Being able to add many custom fields to personalize an email sent is great. Viewing results: The reporting dashboards are simple and intuitive. Transactional emails: It was super easy to hook up via Zapier. API and connectors to other platforms. Cons: Managing different subscriptions requires some thinking and setup with custom fields/lists/segments. It's not really 'out of the box' to set up. The WYSIWYG editor is pretty locked down, which makes it idiot-proof, but would be great to have a little more control over padding, line height, kerning, etc.

What Campaign Monitor actually does differently

Built for agencies: client sub-accounts, client logins, white labeling

Run each client in its own sub-account under one agency login, give clients access to their own campaigns, replace Campaign Monitor's branding with yours, and add a markup to their bill. One agency reviewer runs 40 to 50 client accounts this way.

A builder clients and new staff can use on day one

Reviewers keep coming back to how quickly non-designers learn the drag-and-drop builder and templates, and several agencies pick it for clients new to email because it's easier than Mailchimp.

Transactional email and a stable API

Send receipts and system emails from the same account, and build on an API that developers describe as well documented and unchanged for years.

A dedicated deliverability team

Campaign Monitor reports an average 99% delivery rate and offers Deliverability Services. Long-time and high-volume senders in our corpus describe deliverability as good.

Marketing Monitor scores each campaign against benchmarks

Pick a goal, more opens or more clicks, and it ranks tactics by how often you've used them in the last 90 days, then shows which ones moved results against your own average. Campaign Monitor's pitch: it saves time, simplifies reporting, and cuts wasted effort, so every send does better than the last. Launched in 2026, so the reviews here don't cover it yet.

AI that builds segments and checks drafts

Segment Mapper turns a plain-language description of an audience into a segment. AI Email Booster reviews a draft for copy, tone, and layout and applies a change in one click. Marketing Studio generates on-brand campaigns from your website. Unlimited on Essentials and Premier.

Who Campaign Monitor is for

Agencies running email for several clients

Each client needs its own lists, templates, and reports, and many clients have never run email before.

Client sub-accounts under one agency login, client access, private labeling, markup billing, and section locking so clients can edit copy without breaking the design.

Solopreneurs and small business owners doing their own marketing

No time to learn email marketing, and nobody else to build the newsletter.

Templates and a drag-and-drop builder reviewers call easy from the first day. Lite starts at $13/mo for 500 contacts; the 30-day trial needs no card. No website yet? The $10/mo Website Builder add-on gives you one with signup forms built in. Campaign Monitor calls it better than a standalone builder: one place, one bill, and visitors synced straight to your list.

One- or two-person marketing teams

Welcome series, drip campaigns, signup forms, and transactional email all land on the same small team.

Journeys and automations that run once set up, segmentation, and transactional email. Essentials adds unlimited sends and automated emails, from $31/mo at 500 contacts.

Nonprofits emailing donors, volunteers, and members

Tight budgets, small teams, and donor data in a separate fundraising system.

Templates that volunteers can use, a 15% nonprofit discount through sales, and listed integrations with Raiser's Edge NXT and Qgiv.

Publishers and newsletter senders with large lists

Sending a news or content newsletter to tens of thousands of subscribers, often more than once a week, without landing in spam.

Unlimited sends on Essentials and Premier, list management, and deliverability that high-volume reviewers rate as good, though the bill grows with the list.

Campaign Monitor FAQ

Is Campaign Monitor worth it?+

For small teams, nonprofits, and agencies that want polished newsletters with little setup, reviewers say yes: it rates 4.5 on Capterra and 4.1 on G2, with ease of use the most praised trait. Experienced marketers who need advanced automation, full HTML control, or cheap high-volume sending often move on.

Is Campaign Monitor free?+

No permanent free plan. There's a 30-day free trial capped at 500 contacts and 500 emails, and the signup form asks for no payment details. Paid plans start at $13/mo (Lite, 500 contacts), with 10% off for annual billing.

Is Campaign Monitor safe and legit?+

Yes. Campaign Monitor was founded in Sydney in 2004 and is now owned by Marigold, based in Nashville. It holds an A+ BBB rating (not accredited), lists GDPR and SOC 2 in its trust center, and G2 and Capterra reviewers include customers of 10+ years.

How much does Campaign Monitor cost?+

At 500 contacts: Lite $13/mo, Essentials $31/mo, Premier $171/mo, and Enterprise is custom. Prices rise with contacts; at 10,000 contacts they are $117, $182, and $300 a month. Annual billing saves 10%.

What are the biggest complaints about Campaign Monitor?+

The most common requests are more design control in the builder and deeper automation for advanced users, and some note that the price grows with the list. Its Terms of Use also allow closing accounts that haven't sent email in over a year.
