Simple Powerful and Effortless Email Marketing for Small Agencies

As a small B2B digital marketing agency focusing on Lead Generation and Email Marketing, I have used Campaign Monitor by Marigold within my own company and, more importantly, for my client email campaigns. Of the competitor products I've used (MailChimp, Emma, Vertical Response, etc.) Campaign Monitor by Marigold has been my favorite by far. Pros: Simple and elegant dashboard Easy to understand analytics Ease of use for client campaigns Cons: I honestly can't think of any major improvements. I love Campaign Monitor by Marigold

Easy to use and scales with you

We focus on opt-in email as a way to increase engagement with our followers and fans. Campaign Monitor by Marigold is great way for us to do just that. We appreciate that the pricing is tiered to scale as we grow the list, and the built in templates are all mobile optimized and easy to use. Pros: It was super easy to set up a welcome series for when people subscribe The analytics are useful and easy to review in aggregate or by campaign The template options are all beautifully designed and mobile optimized Cons: Sometimes the editor can be a bit finicky when you click in to edit/swap out an image or link The documentation can sometimes be tricky to follow, but does seem to cover everything we've thought of I would love to see sequence templates

Does what it says on the box. Recommended, especially for small-ish orgs

We are using Campaign Monitor as our email marketing platform. We send emails like, EDMs, invitations, transactional emails, event communications, and automated responses. Marketing leads its use, but it is being used by other teams. We are using it in tandem with CRM/other database systems where we manage contacts. Pros: Personalization: Being able to add many custom fields to personalize an email sent is great. Viewing results: The reporting dashboards are simple and intuitive. Transactional emails: It was super easy to hook up via Zapier. API and connectors to other platforms. Cons: Managing different subscriptions requires some thinking and setup with custom fields/lists/segments. It's not really 'out of the box' to set up. The WYSIWYG editor is pretty locked down, which makes it idiot-proof, but would be great to have a little more control over padding, line height, kerning, etc.

A brilliantly easy to use email marketing tool that's particularly good for agencies.

I run an email marketing agency and use Campaign Monitor for client campaigns. It offers an easy way to create campaigns and allow clients access also. Including historic clients we don't work with anymore, we have around 40-50 sub accounts. The agency version of the product suits this well and the user interface has developed to be very nice to use. Pros: Deliverability generally seems very good User interface is excellent and one of the main reasons I use it for clients who haven't used email marketing much before. Compared with MailChimp, for example, it's much easier to use. Straightforward and easy to use email builder Good reporting Cons: I'd prefer a central contact list with tags, rather than multiple lists. I can have one person on 5 lists and that counts as 5 subscribers. While the email builder is very good, I'd prefer more customisation options. Updates they make are good, but are perhaps a little slow. I'd like better mobile compatibility. I get that might not be possible for the email builder (although aiming for that would be great) but for lists, reports etc there's no reason that shouldn't be mobile-compatible or have a mobile app.

Creating customer journeys has never been more approachable and straightforward

We use Campaign Monitor to drive revenue and engage with our customers on a personal level by automating the email marketing process. We design unique emails that are personalized based on the customer behavior so that we send special offers that are more targeted to a specific group of customers/individual customer. Pros: Customization of templates to showcase our brand Precise adjustments of every campaign aspect in the email builder Sending mass mailouts Cons: Split testing is limited to 2 variants Support is available on email and tickets only.

Awesome Templates. Easy and intuitive Automation Workflows

We use Campaign Monitor to reach out to dentists on the top of the funnel and nurture them with education content until they are ready to send us a case to our lab. Then we move to sending more actionable emails with CTA geared towards making a decision to send a case. Campaign Monitor has been managed mostly by marketing but it has stakeholders in the education and branding departments. Pros: Email templates are very easy to use and have a professional style. Reporting is very dynamic and easy to pull the data you need. Cons: The key field for matching accounts is email which is difficult for companies with multiple business units. One customer may use email across multiple business accounts. It should have a way to better match accounts for a unique record. The premier version at $149 is a bit expensive for what it offers. It should have some price layer between $29 and $149, perhaps with the engagement features for segments.

Best when paired with other platforms

Campaign Monitor is used as one of our supplemental email platforms to IBM WCA. We use it occasionally for special offers and promotions on behalf of our clients. Pros: Quick and Easy Sends - This platform is great for straightforward sends -- we can set up and send our emails within 5 minutes. Live Map Reporting - Campaign Monitor gives real-time reporting of where in the world users are opening and interacting with your emails. Easy to import Design aspects - Campaign Monitor gives the option to import templates in an easy-to-use way. Cons: No WYSIWYG editor -- while there are options to edit the templates, they are extremely limited. Limited Source Code / Live Template Change View -- CM doesn't seem to support live changes to the source code like most other platforms do. For example, if I wanted to update the line-height in the source code of an email, I'd have to save the code in CM, then go preview, then make changes again if needed. Most other platforms have the ability to give live code update previews as they're being made.

Campaign Monitor is Clever!

Campaign Monitor is primarily used by me (Executive Director) and the Office Manager of our non-profit organization. It addresses our need to interface with and market to our volunteers, program participants, donors, and board members easily and effectively through newsletter marketing. Campaign Monitor makes it easy for us to keep folks up to date with our organization! Pros: Campaign Monitor is great with its templates for emails and newsletters. They're well-designed and mobile optimized. Changing the templates or making your own is very intuitive and easy to do, even if you have no web design experience. The bank of emails and ways to segment them before sending is super helpful for us. Cons: I'd like to have a function that tests email addresses and lets you know which ones are no longer working and, if possible, replaces the email you have on file with the one that the subscriber prefers. It would be nice to have more free access to template designers, but they have so many to choose from it's a negligible need. The site kicks you off for inactivity rather quickly, which is a little annoying, but I do keep the window open for a long time as I design newsletters.

Easy To Use. Great Functionality.

We recommend Campaign Monitor to our clients. In most instances, we simply set up the account and design their first template, while in some cases we manage their campaigns on an ongoing basis. <br><br>In any case, we need to be able to recommend a premium product and have access to a range of analytics that will help our clients make better decisions. Campaign Monitor delivers this in spades. Pros: It's super-simple to use. From setting up a template from the gallery, creating a campaign or even setting up automation. Its automation is basic but it's powerful. The pricing scales well allowing our clients to grow. Cons: The entry-level plan is not as competitive It's not as widely integrated as Mailchimp

Pretty Good, But Missing a Few Key Features

Campaign Monitor is used solely by the marketing department to help support other departments within the organization. It helps us promote other department’s events, products, and services. We also use it for our content marketing newsletter that we send out twice a week. Pros: Campaign Monitor’s support is great. They have a great help page built out to help answer all your questions, and if you do have a question or issue that needs extra support, their support team responds within a couple hours to help resolve the issue. The email builder is very clean and easy to use. It makes A/B testing, personalization, and dynamic content easy to implement. I appreciate the insights reporting that Campaign Monitor provides. We use that regularly for our quarterly reporting to track list growth, as well as campaign performance from a high level. The automation is very straight forward and has truly transformed our marketing. The learning curve is pretty low, so my entire team knows how to use it to create and edit automated email journeys. Cons: Campaign Monitor doesn’t have any native social sharing features. You have to go to a third party site in order to get the links for social sharing buttons as a work around. You also can’t edit the social cards in Campaign Monitor, so your emails can appear unformatted in the preview image when sharing on social. There is no way to tell when other team members are working in an email Campaign in the email builder. This has been an issue for us on multiple occasions where two people are working in an email and someone’s work gets accidentally overrided. There is also no manual save feature, instead it auto saves. We’ve had issues with emails not getting saved correctly due to this. Currently there is no way to organize your email campaigns. It would be helpful to have a folder feature so we could sort the different types of campaigns rather than searching through all archived campaigns. I haven’t been impressed with our Customer Successs Managers. None of them have been helpful, and they tend to be pretty hands off. They only talk to us when I reach out to them and remind them that our account exists and we want support.

A great service to get you started, but you'll want to try something else as your list grows.

We use Campaign Monitor as a email marketing and automation solution in our office for our own marketing projects. We have also implemented it for many of our clients. It provides a good interface for email design, list management, and automation tools to incorporate with our marketing campaigns and for use in our funnels. Pros: Easy interface for email building. It's super intuitive even if you're not accustomed to building with code. The campaign reporting is designed very well, and easy to understand. Getting started is simple and automations are easy to get rolling. Cons: The automation features are a bit basic and some power users might find they need a more robust option. Using HTML is harder than it should be. Their Contact Management is cumbersome and list-based, which can create a contact in multiple lists (each counting toward your total).
