Is Campaign Monitor legit? Ownership, security, and reviews checked

By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · Campaign Monitor Reviews · Updated October 4, 2026

Quick verdict

Yes, Campaign Monitor is a legitimate, long-running email marketing service. It started in Sydney in 2004, is owned today by Marigold in Nashville, and publishes a trust center that lists GDPR and SOC 2 Type 1. Reviewers on G2 and Capterra include customers who have used it for ten years or more.

What's left to check is fit: phone support is on the Premier plan, and the price rises with your list.

Who runs Campaign Monitor

Ben Richardson and David Greiner founded Campaign Monitor in Sydney in 2004. Today it is part of Marigold, a marketing software company headquartered at 11 Lea Ave in Nashville, and the product carries the name “Campaign Monitor by Marigold.”

You may have read that Zeta Global bought Marigold. In 2025 Zeta acquired Marigold's enterprise brands. Campaign Monitor was not part of that sale and stays with Marigold.

The Better Business Bureau gives the company an A+ rating. It is not BBB accredited, which is an optional paid membership.

Campaign Monitor security and compliance

Marigold runs a security assurance portal for Campaign Monitor at trust.campaignmonitor.meetmarigold.com. It lists two certifications: GDPR and SOC 2 Type 1. A Type 1 report checks that security controls are designed properly at a point in time; it is not the longer Type 2 audit, so buyers whose policy requires Type 2 should ask sales directly.

Inside the app, every plan includes two-factor authentication and user roles with per-person permissions, so a team can share one account without sharing a password. Deliverability support is listed on every plan, and Campaign Monitor reports an average 99% delivery rate (its own figure).

Campaign Monitor ratings and awards

  • Capterra: 4.5 out of 5 from 506 reviews. In the 159 Capterra reviews we pulled, reviewers rated ease of use 8.8 out of 10, features 8.4, customer support 8.3, and value 8.3.
  • G2: 4.1 out of 5 from 731 reviews.
  • Trustpilot: 2.2 out of 5 from 200 reviews. A TrustScore depends heavily on whether a company invites customers to review, so it reads differently from G2 and Capterra. Our methodology explains both numbers.
  • Expert reviews: PCMag gave it 3.5 out of 5 in June 2026 and singled out its easy-to-use features and campaign tracking. Zapier's February 2026 roundup picks it for agencies that handle email marketing for multiple clients.

Current awards:

  • Email Marketing Innovation Award, 2026 (MarTech Breakthrough)
  • Leader, Fall 2026 (G2)
  • Easiest To Use, Fall 2026 (G2)

What Campaign Monitor reviewers say

G2 and Capterra reviewers praise the same things. They say the drag-and-drop builder is easy enough for new staff and clients to learn quickly, the templates look clean, and the reports show clearly how each campaign did. Support gets named often, usually for answering fast and knowing the product. Agencies like the client sub-accounts, and long-time senders describe steady deliverability.

“Campaign Monitor is reliable, intuitive, and backed by a support team that responds quickly and thoroughly.”Michael M., Capterra, Nov 2025
“I have been working with Campaign Monitor for 10+ years and have never had a lapse in great service.”JoAnn H., G2, Mar 2025

The common requests are more design control in the builder and deeper automation for advanced users. Read them in full in our review collection.

  • If you want phone support, budget for Premier; the other plans use email support.
  • The Terms of Use (section 12.B) let Campaign Monitor remove accounts that haven't sent email for more than one year, so occasional senders should send at least once a year or export their lists.
